November is National Caregivers Awareness Month. I know, I know – if you look at the calendar long enough, you’ll find there is a month to honor everything and everyone. But that’s exactly why I’m mentioning that this month is about honoring caregivers. Honestly, this is a group of people who can’t get enough attention – and by the way, there’s a very good chance that you fall into this group.

It’s reported widely that caregiving is a role that almost everyone will find themselves in at some point in their lives. We traditionally think of caregiving as something provided by trained employees, and often in service to the elderly or those with disabilities. The truth is caregiving is much broader than that definition. Caring for people of all ages who are vulnerable due to physical or emotional circumstances, or because they lack the access to resources or ability to care for themselves, is exactly the reason people step into the role of caregiving and do it the best they can.

Every other year, Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis offers a conference focusing on caregiving. It is comprehensive in scope, delivering resources and support on every aspect of caregiving. Our next conference will be in 2027. You don’t need to wait until then though to receive helpful information, support, and resources to assist you in providing caregiving, and importantly, for yourself as a caregiver. For more information on all the programs and services offered by JFCS to caregivers, please contact us at 952-546-0616 or click here.

Increasingly, the role of caregiving will become a necessary skill we all need. We recognize this at JFCS and we continue to evolve our programming to reflect how we can best serve the community. For those who require caregiving, and for those who offer it, JFCS is Here for all. Always.
