Who: Anyone who identifies as a girl, aged 10-13
Why: The tween and teen years are a time of transition, learning, excitement and often frustration. These years can be especially challenging for girls. Parents often wonder how to best to support their child during this time. Girls this age benefit from connection and support from their peers. We have created a group specifically focused on empowering and supporting teen girls.
This peer-focused supported group guided by a trained facilitators who will provide extra support for social and emotional learning in a safe environment. The group is designed to allow the participants to learn from and connect with each other while learning new coping skills and perspectives they can apply to everyday situations. The goal of the group is to empower participants, make new friends, build confidence and communication skills. This group is a perfect way to support your tween and is beneficial in combination with therapy or as a stand-alone support.
The group will be facilitated by several JFCS therapists and a parent coach.
Activities include role playing, journaling, individual reflection time, and playing a variety of social and emotional development games. Girls will learn a variety of new coping skills that they can bring with them into their everyday activities and routines. Topics include: coping with anxious feelings, self-esteem/body image, social media, friendships, and dealing with the demands of school/other activities.
Parents will meet with the group facilitators during part of the first class to receive an overview of what to expect.
