JFCS names Amy Weiss as Next CEO, following retirement of Judy Halper

Amy Weiss

A new chapter begins in 2026, grounded in compassionate leadership and community commitment

Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis (JFCS) is honored and excited to announce Amy Weiss as the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer. Amy will assume the role at the start of 2026, following the retirement of longtime CEO Judy Halper at the end of this year.

Following a national search, the JFCS CEO Search Committee—co-chaired by Board President Howard Hoffman and immediate past President Natalie Zamansky—unanimously selected Amy to lead JFCS into its next chapter.

“Amy stood out for her deep understanding of our organization, her commitment to community advocacy, and her ability to lead with both vision and heart,” said Howard Hoffman, JFCS Board President. “She brings the presence, experience, and insight to be the face of JFCS and to strengthen its position as a premier human service organization in Minnesota.”

“Throughout the process, Amy demonstrated strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and a deep passion for the work of JFCS,” added Natalie Zamansky, Immediate Past Board President. “Her leadership in developing our new strategic plan confirmed for us that she is not only ready, but excited to guide our staff and community forward.”

Amy brings more than two decades of experience in human services and has held leadership roles at JFCS for the past eight years, including Chief Program Officer and Director of Community Services. She is recognized for her collaborative leadership style and ability to bring people together across diverse communities.

She was selected for her proven ability to:

  • Provide visionary and inspirational leadership
  • Lead diverse teams and build inclusive partnerships
  • Offer strategic direction and oversee organizational resources
  • Represent JFCS in the Jewish and broader community with authenticity and impact
  • Strengthen relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders
  • Engage with Jewish communal life from a place of personal knowledge and deep commitment

“I’m honored to serve as JFCS’ next CEO,” said Amy Weiss.  “I look forward to continuing our legacy of compassionate, person-centered care, grounded in our values of compassion, integrity, innovation, collaboration, and inclusion, and our commitment to Tikkun Olam, the Jewish value of repairing the world.”

JFCS’ longtime CEO Judy Halper announced her retirement earlier this year, concluding more than 30 years of service, including 20 years as CEO. She has guided the organization with strength, humility, and a steadfast commitment to serving all who turn to JFCS.

“Amy is a thoughtful and strategic leader who is deeply committed to our mission,” Halper said. “Her calm determination, flexibility, and passion for serving the community will serve JFCS well. I couldn’t be more pleased to see her take on this role.”

JFCS will honor Judy and her remarkable legacy at a special community celebration later this year. Event details will be announced soon.
