J-Pride Yiddish Culture Cafe Kick Off

Tue Sep 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Tuesday, September 24
6-8 p.m.
Eat Street Crossing – 2819 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis

You are invited to the first of J-Pride’s new Yiddish Culture Cafes! We will gather to learn, schmooze, and be inspired by Yiddish culture. Participants will review the Yiddish Alef-beys (alphabet), learn how to introduce themselves in Yiddish, share about their interests and experiences with Yiddish culture, and explore Queer Yiddish terminology throughout history. No prior Yiddish knowledge is required. Whether you’re just curious about Yiddish or you’re already immersed in its rich culture, all are welcome to gather with fellow LGBTQ+ Jews to connect, share, and learn something new. This gathering will kick off an ongoing series of exploring Yiddish literature, art, history, theater, folklore, magic, and beyond.

The first hour of this event will take place indoors, and we request participants please wear masks during that time if it does not pose accessibility barriers. KN 95 Masks will be provided. Afterwards, small group discussions, noshing, and schmoozing can take place either indoors or on the outdoor patio, with or without masks.

Register here! Please reach out to Hunter at Hwengersky@jfcsmpls.org with any questions.

The J-Pride Yiddish Culture Cafes are made possible by the Yiddish Book Center’s Yiddish Arts and Culture Initiative.

The Yiddish Book Center’s Yiddish Arts and Culture Initiative for Jewish Communities is a seed grant and cultural enrichment program offering resources for communities seeking to enhance their Yiddish arts and cultural offerings. Each selected community organization will curate a series of programs that will spark and enliven their community’s creative and intellectual engagement with Yiddish arts and culture, broadly conceived, fostering a deeper understanding of the relationship between Yiddish culture and Jewish identity.
