From the Desk of CEO Judy Halper: August 2018

I’m a really stubborn person…just ask my family! I don’t like being told what to do, and after all, who does? But, I’m here to tell you that the Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis Annual Online Auction is about to launch on Aug. 28, and you don’t want to miss it! Our slogan is “You Know You’re Going To Do It…Now Do It For Good!” And believe me, this is very good advice…because even though it’s annoying to be told what to do….you know you really do want “that” gift certificate to Bacio, “those” tickets to the Vikings, and “that” certificate for a massage. Not to mention, you might also want “that” sailing school gift certificate, or “that” fabulous trip…all of which you’ll find online beginning Aug. 28! And c’mon, we all shop online these days and “this” online shopping will support the critical work of JFCS serving so many in our community. But don’t wait too long because the auction closes on Sept. 6!

 

Am I coming across as bossy?? Geez…stubborn and bossy…well, lucky for me with Yom Kippur right around the corner, I can make amends, ask for forgiveness, and promise to do better in the New Year. When it comes to doing better, one way that works well for those of us looking to give back, is to get active with volunteering. Nothing makes you feel better than doing something that you know will benefit someone in need. At Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis, we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities. If you’re looking for something ongoing, your involvement in our Jewish Big Brother/Big Sister Program might be just the thing for you. If helping out on an occasional basis is more to your liking, we might have a project that needs extra hands, or assistance in our fabulous new warehouse where we’re stocking items for Hag Sameach (our Happy Holidays program). And, if you’re looking for something and we think you’ll find it at another location in the community, we’ll assist you in making that connection, too.

 

Whether it’s shopping online, contributing by volunteering your time, or getting involved with us in some other way, please know that all the ways you support JFCS are tremendously appreciated. Now warm up your fingers and get ready to hit the keyboard to help us have a successful Online Auction!
