MLK Jr. Day of Service
By Dana Shapiro • Community and Volunteer Engagement Manager
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed each year on the third Monday in January, and it is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
Throughout the year, JFCS – through its programs and services – is committed to helping build equity and opportunity for all people in our community and strive to create systems and institutions that operate on behalf of people of all races. We believe in Dr. King’s vision of serving others, as well as the Jewish value of “tikkun olam” (repairing the world), and we offer many ways for volunteers to get involved in a cause or causes that you find meaningful.
