Volunteer Spotlight – July 2021: Sheryl Rutzick

What current volunteer role(s) do you have with JFCS and what volunteer role(s) have you held in the past?

My current volunteer role is as a driver for Garber Transportation. Once in a while, I will assist with delivering items to PJ Library families’ homes for virtual events taking place. I have been a volunteer for the Hag Sameach (Happy Holidays) program and was a shopper at one time.

How long have you been volunteering with JFCS and what motivated you to volunteer with us?

I do not recall when I began my volunteer partnership with JFCS, but I would tend to guess it was before I retired in 2011, knowing I would have plenty of free time and wanting to be able to give back to my community and help others.

How has being a JFCS volunteer impacted your life?

It is rewarding knowing that I am helping others.

What’s your favorite part about volunteering with JFCS?

I’ve made some new friends over the years through these volunteer roles.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in Connecticut and lived in California and Texas for a few years before moving to Minnesota 30 years ago. I am married with two daughters and a son-in-law.

What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering with JFCS?

JFCS is a wonderful organization with a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for those wanting to feel rewarded by helping others. Schedules can be flexible too!
