Freedom from Addiction Seder 2024
By Leah Persky, PhD & CFLE • Manager of Professional and Community Education & Addiction and Recovery Services
Another successful Freedom from Addiction Seder to celebrate! 53 people attended the Freedom from Addiction Seder at Beth El Synagogue in St. Louis Park on April 25. This hybrid event was hosted by JFCS and the Jewish Recovery Network (JRN), and generously supported by the Zouber family. Rabbi Lynn C. Liberman, BCC, a Community Chaplain of Jewish Family Service of St. Paul led the Seder with the support of Bill Torodor, the Choir Director at Beth El Synagogue and Anni Dhir who provided American Sign Language interpretation.
This Seder celebrated our Freedom from Addiction and Slavery, with a recovery-themed Haggadah to welcome all community members. The event offered a time to connect, reflect and celebrate during the Passover holiday with a traditional Passover meal and dessert. This was some of the attendees’ first year at this event, and others have attended many times over the years. Participants enjoyed the evening, with many noting they appreciated this opportunity to celebrate Passover in a safe space that acknowledged their recovery journey and Jewish identity. Thank you to Beth El Synagogue for the use of their beautiful space and to our amazing Seder leaders and volunteers – you made this event a success and a pleasure. Another thank you to all who attended, making this a memorable and meaningful Seder.
